Marriage Quotes

Nothing can bring a real sense of security into the home except true love.
Author: Billy Graham

I have known many happy marriages, but never a compatible one. The whole aim of marriage is to fight through and survive the instant when incompatibility becomes unquestionable.
Author: G.K. Chesterton

Marriage is an adventure, like going to war.
Author: G.K. Chesterton

Marriage is not a union, merely between two creatures - it is a union between two spirits; and the intention of that bond is to perfect the nature of both, by supplementing their deficiencies with the force of contrast, giving to each sex those excellencies in which it is naturally deficient.
Author: Frederick W. Robertson

It is not marriage that fails; it is people that fail. All that marriage does is to show them up.
Author: Harry Emerson Fosdick

Many marriages would be better if the husband and the wife clearly understood that they are on the same side.
Author: Zig Ziglar

The Puritan ethic of marriage was first to look not for a partner whom you do love passionately at this moment but rather for one whom you can love steadily as your best friend for life, then to proceed with God's help to do just that.
Author: J.I. Packer

A married person does not live in isolation. He or she has made a promise, a pledge, a vow, to another person. Until that vow is fulfilled and the promise is kept, the individual is in debt to his marriage partner. That is what he owes. "You owe it to yourself" is not a valid excuse for breaking a marriage vow but a creed of selfishness.
Author: R.C. Sproul

Husbands and wives, recognize that in marriage you have become one flesh. If you live for your private pleasure at the expense of your spouse, you are living against yourself and destroying your joy. But if you devote yourself with all your heart to the holy joy of your spouse, you will also be living for your joy and making a marriage after the image of Christ and His church.
Author: John Piper

Staying married, therefore, is not mainly about staying in love. It is about keeping covenant. "Till death do us part" or "As long as we both shall live" is a sacred covenant promise - the same kind Jesus made with His bride when He died for her.
Author: John Piper

When two people know, accept, and fulfill their varying but complementary responsibilities, oneness in marriage is promoted.
Author: Wayne Mack

Wherever you find marital failure, you will find a breakdown in real communication. Wherever you find marital success, you will find a good communication system.

Running While Pregnant

http://www.pregnancy-calendars.net/running.aspx

One of the most common pregnancy exercise questions is “Can I continue to run during my pregnancy?”. The answer is - it depends. Pregnancy is not really the time to begin running on a regular basis. Even if you are not pregnant, running will place a great amount of stress on your knees and other joints. You would possibly be better off sticking to a form of exercise which places less stress on your body, such as walking or swimming.
If you had been a runner on a regular basis prior to your pregnancy, then there is a good chance that you can continue to run during your pregnancy, as long as you take some precautions.
Are there benefits of running during pregnancy?
Running is the quickest and easiest way to give your heart and mind a rejuvenating workout. It will leave you feeling full of energy, all while giving your body a good workout. It is easy to fit in a quick 15 minute jog – without the need for any additional equipment, just a good pair of shoes and some open road.
Running in the first trimester
As with most exercise during the first trimester, ensure that you monitor your heart rate, drink lots of water before, during and after your exercise. It is vitally important that you do not dehydrate.
For running it is extremely important that the shoes you wear are a good quality running shoe – this will reduce the amount of pressure and strain which you place on your knees and other joints. The more support the shoes can offer the better, especially later on during your pregnancy.
Running in the second trimester
As your pregnancy progresses into the second trimester your center of gravity will begin to shift. You may often feel unstable at the best of times during this trimester and you may be left feeling as if you could fall over or slip at any moment. So, if you are running during your pregnancy make sure that the surface you are running on is as level as possible to minimize any chance of you falling.
If you do feel that you are falling, try and land on your side or bottom rather than placing any unnecessary trauma on your abdomen.
Running in the third trimester
If you have been as careful as you can be in the first two trimesters now is an even more important time to be extra careful.
During this trimester listen to your body. If you feel too tired or to sore to run, then don’t. Be sure not to push yourself too much as this can often be more dangerous and may cause more problems than doing no exercise at all.
As your pregnancy nears it's end, it may be a good idea to tone down the amount of running you are doing. In fact your healthcare provider may even recommend that you look at reducing your running all together to a fast paced walk instead.

You Are My All In All (lyrics)

You are my strength when I am weak
You are the treasure that I seek
You are my all in all
I'm seeking You like a precious jewel
Lord, to give up I'd be a fool
You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God
Holy is Your name
Jesus, Lamb of God
Holy is Your name

Taking my cross my sin my shame
Raising again I praise Your name
You are my all in all
When I fall down You pick me up
When I run dry You fill my cup
You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God
Holy is Your name
Jesus, Lamb of God
Holy is Your name

Baby Led Weaning

Baby-led Weaning: The fuss-free way to introduce solid foods

DOs and DON’Ts for baby-led weaning

1. DO offer your baby the chance to participate whenever anyone else in the family is eating. You can begin to do this as soon as he shows an interest in watching you, although he is unlikely to be ready to put food in his mouth until he is about six months old.

2. DO ensure that your baby is supported in an upright position while he is experimenting with food. In the early days you can sit him on your lap, facing the table. Once he is beginning to show skill at picking food up he will almost certainly be mature enough to sit, with minimal support, in a high chair.

3. DO start by offering foods that are baby-fist-sized, preferably chip-shaped (i.e., with a ‘handle’). As far as possible, and provided they are suitable, offer him the same foods that you are eating, so that he feels part of what is going on.

4. DO offer a variety of foods. There is no need to limit your baby’s experience with food any more than you do with toys.

5. DON’T hurry your baby. Allow him to direct the pace of what he is doing. In particular, don’t be tempted to ‘help’ him by putting things in his mouth for him.

6. DON’T expect your baby to eat any food on the first few occasions. Once he has
discovered that these new toys taste nice, he will begin to chew and, later, to swallow.

7. DON’T expect a young baby to eat all of each piece of food at first – remember that he won’t yet have developed the ability to get at food which is inside his fist.

8. DO try rejected foods again later – babies often change their minds and later accept foods they originally turned down.

9. DON’T leave your baby on his own with food.

10. DON’T offer foods which present an obvious danger, such as peanuts.

11. DON’T offer ‘fast’ foods, ready meals or foods that have added salt or sugar.

12. DO offer water from a cup but don’t worry if your baby shows no interest in it.
A breastfed baby, in particular, is likely to continue for some time to get all the drinks he needs from the breast.

13. DO be prepared for the mess! A clean plastic sheet on the floor under the high chair will protect your carpet and make clearing up easier. It will also enable you to give back foods that have been dropped, so that less is wasted. (You will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly your baby learns to eat with very little mess!)

14. DO continue to allow your baby to breastfeed whenever he wants, for as long as he wants. Expect his feeding pattern to change as he starts to eat more solid foods.

15. If you have a family history of food intolerance, allergy or digestive problems, DO discuss this method of weaning with your health advisers before embarking on it.

16. Finally, DO enjoy watching your baby learn about food – and develop his skills with his hands and mouth in the process!

Caring for your Baby's Teeth

http://www.webmd.com/parenting/baby/caring-babies-teeth

After weeks of watching your baby drool and fuss, you finally spot that first little tooth bud popping up through the gums. Over the next couple of years, your baby's gummy smile will gradually be replaced by two rows of baby teeth.
Baby teeth may be small, but they're important. They act as placeholders for adult teeth. Without a healthy set of baby teeth, your child will have trouble chewing and speaking clearly. That's why caring for baby teeth and keeping them decay-free is so important.

Caring for Baby's Gums
You can start caring for your baby's gums right away. But at first, the care won't involve a toothbrush and toothpaste. Instead, take these steps:

- Get a soft, moistened washcloth or piece of gauze.
- Gently wipe down your baby's gums at least twice a day.
- Especially wipe your baby's gums after feedings and before bedtime.
This will wash off bacteria and prevent them from clinging to your baby's gums. Bacteria can leave behind a sticky plaque that damages infant teeth as they erupt.

Brushing Baby's Teeth
When the first baby teeth start to pop up, you can graduate to a toothbrush. Choose one with a:
- soft brush
- small head
- large handle
At first, just wet the toothbrush. At around age 1, you can start using a pea-sized amount of a non-fluoridated toothpaste. Wait to introduce fluoride toothpaste until your child is at least 2 years old. Brush gently all around your child's baby teeth -- front and back.
You should brush your baby's teeth until he or she is old enough to hold the brush. Continue to supervise the process until your child can rinse and spit without assistance. That usually happens at around age 6.
Keep on the lookout for any signs of baby tooth decay -- brown or white spots or pits on the teeth. If you or your pediatrician notices any problems, take your child to a pediatric dentist for an exam.
Even if there isn't a problem, your child should go for his or her first pediatric dentist visit by age 1. The dentist can give you advice about:

- baby tooth care
- teething
- fluoride
- thumb sucking
Teething
It can take two years before all of the infant teeth have made their way through your baby's gums. The process as each tooth emerges is called "teething." It can be a trying time for you and your baby.
Teething is uncomfortable. That's why your baby cries and fusses in the days or weeks before each baby tooth pops up. Babies can display other teething symptoms, too, including:
- drooling
- swollen gums
- slightly higher than normal temperature
Here are a few tips to relieve your baby's teething pain:

Teething rings. Let your baby chew on a clean, cool teething ring or cold washcloth. Just avoid giving your child anything that is small enough to choke on. Also avoid a teething ring with liquid inside that could break open.

Gum rubbing. Rub your baby's gums with a clean finger.

Pain relief. Give your baby Tylenol (acetaminophen) occasionally to relieve pain -- but ask your pediatrician first. Never give your child aspirin. It has been linked with a rare but serious condition called Reye's syndrome in children.
If your baby is unusually irritable or inconsolable, call your pediatrician.

Preventing Cavities
In addition to caring for baby teeth, you need to protect them. To prevent cavities, only fill your baby's bottle with:
- formula
- breast milk
- water
Avoid giving your child fruit juices, sodas, and other sugary drinks. Sweet drinks -- even milk -- can settle on the teeth. This can lead to baby tooth decay -- also known as "baby bottle tooth decay." Bacteria feed on the sugar from sweet drinks and produce acid, which attacks your baby's teeth.
If you have to send your baby to bed or naps with a bottle or sippy cup, fill it with water only. Also avoid putting anything sweet -- such as sugar or honey -- on your baby's pacifier.
